The Fibonacci progression

Since the beginning of the year, undergraduate visitation in the lab for short duration (2-7 weeks) has increased in what seems to follow the Fibonacci numbers, as depicted in red in Fig 1.

Given this concerning observation, I've proposed 2 courses of actions for the Lab head, either to apply to the National Science Foundation for extra funding, given that a PhD student can take of +/- 2 undergrad students for a 2 week period, we would need a 70 PhD students increase by the end of the year to cope with the overwhelming flow of undergrads. 

Second course of action would be to migrate the lab to a none teaching research institute where I wouldn't have teaching duty, and thus have more time to spent on research and blogging!!!
